# AI generation

> Generate images, video and whole posts, and how credits work

**Where:** Inside the composer (**AI Image**, **AI Video**) and the calendar
sidebar (the AI generate button)

  **Availability:** Postiz Cloud, Standard plan and above. The image generator
  needs Team and above. On self-hosted installs these features need AI keys
  configured on the instance.

## AI images

**AI Image** in the attachments bar takes a prompt and a style, and drops the
result straight into the post. Generated images land in your media library too,
so you can reuse them.

## AI video

**AI Video** offers the video generators available on your instance:

* **Veo3**, prompt-driven video generation, optionally seeded with media.
* **Image and text slides**, which turns images plus narration into a video.

You also pick an **orientation**: vertical for stories and reels, horizontal
for everything else. Pick it correctly the first time, since re-generating
costs another credit.

Video generation is slow. If it outlives the composer session, Postiz tells you
the result will appear in your media library when it finishes.

## Generating whole posts

The AI button in the calendar sidebar generates posts rather than media. You
give it a subject and it researches, picks an angle, writes, optionally
generates pictures, and finds a time to post. You choose:

* **Output format**: a short post, a long post, a thread of short posts, or a
  thread of long posts.
* **Tone**: personal voice or company voice.
* **Pictures**: whether to generate images alongside the text.

It streams its progress and drops finished posts onto the calendar as drafts,
so nothing publishes without you reviewing it.

## Credits

AI images and AI videos are metered separately on Postiz Cloud.

* Each generation spends one credit.
* A generation that fails does not cost you a credit.
* Credits reset monthly, on the anniversary of your subscription rather than on
  the first of the month.
* Running out gives you an error pointing at the billing page. See
  [Limits](/cloud/limits) for the per-plan allowances.

<Note>
  **On self-hosted Postiz:** there are no credits, but AI features only work if
  the instance has the relevant API keys configured. Without them the buttons
  either do not appear or return nothing.
