# Threads and comments

> Multi-part posts, what each platform does with them, and delays between parts

**Where:** Inside the composer, the **Add post** button under the editor

A post can have more than one part. What the extra parts become depends on the
platform: a real thread, a comment on your own post, or nothing at all.

## Adding a part

The button under the editor is labelled according to what the selected platform
supports:

| **Add comment**         | Extra parts publish as comments on the first post |
| **Add comment or post** | The platform supports both                        |

Each part gets its own editor and its own media. Use the arrows to reorder
parts and the bin to remove one.

## Delays between parts

Every part after the first has a **Delay** control: how long to wait after the
previous part before publishing this one.

Available delays: 1m, 2m, 5m, 10m, 15m, 30m, 1h, 2h.

Delays are useful for two things: making a thread land at a human pace rather
than all at once, and putting a link in a follow-up comment some minutes after
the main post, which several platforms treat more kindly than a link in the
post itself.

## What each platform does

If you add parts and then select a platform that does not support them, the
composer will tell you at validation time rather than silently dropping them.

## Media on later parts

Some platforms accept media on the first part only. On those, the media
controls on later parts are disabled, and the reason is the platform, not
Postiz.

X is the common exception in the other direction: a genuine thread where every
part can carry its own images. Note that an X **article** in draft state cannot
have thread replies at all.

## Writing a thread that works everywhere

If you are posting the same thread to several platforms, the safe shape is:
text-only follow-up parts, media on the first part, and no assumption that the
parts appear as one continuous thread. Where a platform posts them as comments
instead, that is what your readers see.
